Platinum rhodium thermocouples are also called precious metal thermocouples. They are used as temperature measuring sensors. They are usually used together with temperature transmitters, regulators and display instruments to form a process control system for direct measurement or control of various production processes. Temperatures in the range of fluids, vapors and gases, and solid surfaces in the range of 1800 °C.
A platinum-iridium thermocouple is a circuit in which a conductor of two different compositions is joined into a loop. When the temperature of the two junctions is different, a thermal current is generated in the loop. If there is a temperature difference between the working end of the thermocouple and the reference junction, the display meter will indicate the temperature value corresponding to the thermoelectric potential generated by the thermocouple.
The thermoelectric heat of the platinum-rhodium thermocouple will increase with the temperature of the measuring end, and its size is only related to the thermocouple material and the temperature at both ends, regardless of the length and diameter of the hot electrode. The shape of various platinum-iridium thermocouples is often very different due to needs, but their basic structure is roughly the same, usually composed of main components such as hot electrode, insulating sleeve protection tube and junction box.
